UPDATE: Putin: Econ coop, terrorism fight key in China relations

(Adds details in last two paragraphs)

MOSCOW, Jul 4 (PRIME) – Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday that although the countries are focused on economic cooperation, it is also important that the two states are jointly pursuing global security.

“We see today’s event as the key one in terms of strengthening bilateral relations. I am pleased to note that whereas we saw, albeit modest, a growth of trade volume last year, this year it is significant, 37% over the first four months of this year,” Putin said.

“But we also work on uniting our efforts on the international stage, in the sphere of security, fighting against the threats and challenges of our days.”

Putin also said that Moscow will do its best to support China’s One Belt One Road project and sees a big potential in the joint use of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

Concerning the agriculture cooperation, Putin said that Russia will raise wheat supplies to China and a document giving Russian meat makers admission to the Chinese market is at an advanced stage of discussion.
